Company Management Tips
There are many ways to employ a Construction Inspector:
- the owner engages the C.I. for the project
- the C.I. works under direction of architect (legally required in some cases)
- architect engages C.I. as extension of his own agreement with owner
- owner assigns one of his own inspection staff
- a public agency may provide its own C.I, who may be fully directed by architect
The cost of inspection is based on the degree of inspection required, the type, complexity, and size of the project and quality of inspectors required. One C.I. Association recommends and uses a compensation rate not less than the average of the foreman of the four highest paid trades working on the proposed project. This assumes that his compensation is reasonably equivalent to that of the personnel he is observing.
