Job Safety

Make it clear to the contractor and his superintendent at the pre-construction conferences that you are not there to review the adequacy of the contractors safety program. Explain that, as a general rule, you are trying to observe and report any discrepancies between the requirements of the specifications and drawings and the contractor's work, and that you are not hired to review the contractor's safety precautions. Two main categories of safety exist here: whether the project is safe to use after it is finished; and that the identity, training, and qualifications of those responsible for on-site human safety are known from the start of the project. Do not assume the responsibilities yourself. The contractor is responsible for the project safety program.
